The Gymnasium was built in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The first school basketball game was played in the Gym before it was even finished. |

The steel framework was available shortly after the Second World War, and the monks made use of this less costly construction method.
Two monks, Fr Robert West on the far end, and Br. Gerald Kelly on the near end rode the frame up and are now fastening it in place.

A crew of monks is helping to put stucco on the wall. The monk on the left is probably Abbot Ignatious. Shortly after completion of the building, a handball court was constructed against the east wall of the Gym, and given the very sturdy construction of this court, the townspeople assumed that the monks were putting braces on the building that they had just completed. |
