The Power House was built in the early 1900s and is one of the original buildings on the Abbey site. When built, it housed the boilers, shops, electric generators and the press. |

The boilers have been converted from coal, to oil, to gas, and now back to burning coal. Coal firing remains a dusty, labor intensive endeavor, but the savings on heating costs make it well worth the effort put into it. Today these ancient boilers idle along at 10 psi, but there was a time when they ran at 150 psi, and powered the electric generators for the whole city of Richardton. |

The rear view of the powerhouse shows the chimney, which seems to get repaired every 10 to 20 years, and the coal tower with its many conveyors and augers.
