Library Building

The Abbey Library was built in the 1940s to serve the Abbey College. The lower level is home to the book binder and other offices, The main level holds our library, and the upper level in the days of the college held classrooms, and the music department.

Revealing its past as a classroom, a large part of

the second floor serves as editorial offices for the

American Benedictine Review.

The second floor also contains work rooms and

serves the museum.

The main floor of the Library Building is taken up by the

library, where over 80,000 accessions dating back from

the 1500s grace the stacks.

Br. Jacob does book binding for us, but his work is limited to

our own Library and Liturgy Office.

The monks recently purchased a used loom which is used for

making rag rugs. Here Br. Louie sets it up, the warp and the

woof.

This is one of several hobbies that monks practice in their

spare time.
