Fr. Francis Wehri Ordained 50 Years

 

We have written much about Fr. Francis Wehri in this series on the Priors of Bogota, but we must add something more. He was ordained a priest a half-century ago! In fact, Bishop Hilary B. Hacker of  Bishop laid hands on him in 1961. In those days, most of the monks were ordained “simplex,” which meant after three (not four) years of theology. The catch was that such a “simplex” priest could not hear confessions.

Over the years, Fr. Francis has never been assigned to a parish, but he has heard plenty of confessions! In fact, the priests in our Bogota priory do a great deal of sacramental ministry. As long as he can, Fr. Francis will continue to bring the ministry of God’s love to the people of Bogota.
