CHARITABLE GIFTS FROM AN IRA
For your information, one can make charitable gifts from an IRA to a charitable organization such as Assumption Abbey to help out with your overall tax picture. Naturally, you will want to talk this over with your estate planner. It is always a good idea to make sure one’s will and estate planning program is up-to-date.
PROJECTS AT THE ABBEY
People have asked monks, “are you done remodeling, yet?” Given the size and age of our buildings and physical plant, the normal answer is, “no, not yet” as there are always repairs and maintenance projects required. Last year, with the help of our generous donors, we raised money to purchase a new boiler. To date, the old boiler has been removed and a new one purchased though not yet installed. New doors, windows, and insulated panels have been installed in the west entrance of the refectory (dining room) building. We are still working on getting the pavement redone.
VOLUNTEERS
We are thankful for two young men who volunteered at the Abbey this summer, Matthew and Jacob. Matthew was here from early June to mid-August while Jacob was here during the first part of August. They were a great help for the lawns, gardens, and other projects in the monastery. At the end of their experiences it was tempting to hide car keys, but we knew they had to go on to other things. Yes, it was a grace to have them with us.
BOOK OF THE LIVING
During November, we place our Book of the Living with the names of deceased monks, family members, and friends next to the monks’ entrance into the church. There is a form at the bottom of this page for you to send us the names of family and friends you would like to be included. The book is placed in the church from All Souls to the beginning of Advent.
