Bro. John Seiler is our maintenance director, and he has had plenty to direct this fall and winter. In addition to the renovation of the east wing second floor, we are also going to rewire the place to accommodate a backup generator. And next spring, please God, we will put a new roof on the library building.
A Movie about Monks
and for Monks
By Terrence Kardong, O.S.B.
On Saturday evening, November 3, the monks watched the acclaimed new documentary
film “Into Great Silence.” German film-
And what a peek it is! For three hours the camera follows the monks around their ancient digs and even into their rooms. Actually, what we see is not too surprising, for all monks share a basic schedule and routine. What is remarkable about this film is that there is no dialogue and no music—just deafening silence. For three hours. Now this film has been showing in public theatres all over the world and people are stunned by what they experience. Not only is the camera work exquisite—the silence is exquisite.
