Statues and Art

In beautiful things we encounter Beauty Himself. (St. Francis of Assisi) Through our many beautiful statues and works of art, we are led to contemplate God. Here are a vew of our most loved pieces.

The Statue of Our Lady of the Immaculate

Conception

The statue is located in the Abbey Courtyard. This statue was

commissioned by Abbot Placid in 1917.

The Assumption of Mary

This statue was placed in front of the main monastery building in

the 1950s. As part of the Church renovation project in 2000, it

was moved to the plaza in front of the church.

Celebration of Assumption Abbey.

This statue is by artist/sculptor Raymond Rogers of Mott, ND,

The Sacred Heart of Jesus

Standing on the site of the former Science Building, this statue of

the Sacred Heart of Jesus was presented to the Abbey as a

memorial for Robert Miske, a student in our school by Mr. & Mrs.

Leo Miske. This statue stood outside of the school building until

1996 when it was reset on this site.

Our Lady of Einsiedeln

Assumption Abbey. It is a copy of the statue at our mother house

of Einsiedeln Abbey in Switzerland. This replica of the famous

statue was presented to us in the 1950s.

Church.

Passing the Gift of Creativity

by Br. Llewellyn Kouba, OSB

This magnificent Icon was written by Br. Llewellyn over the course

of two years, being finished in 2010. It prayerfully leads the

admirer through a beautiful and sanctified journey, starting with

Assumption Abbey’s ancient Christian and monastic roots, and

ending with many contemporary elements of our life that define

our mission as Benedctine Monks on the prairie.

It is located in the Assumption Abbey Cafeteria.

St. Francis of Assisi

This statue of St Francis is located by the east entrance

of Schnell Hall and was donated to the Abbey after the

refurbishing of this building.

 The Guardian Angel

“Gard" is the nickname of this statue of the guardian angel executed

by the late Mott sculptor Raymond Rogers. It was commissioned by

Abbey benefactor Major Anne Krizanauskas, cousin to Br. Juan Diego.

Anne was very fond of her guardian angel throughout her career in

the US Air Force,  but she wanted a guardian angel that appeared as

a mature man, who had done some work in his life. The sculptor

captured this idea.
